This interactive workshop will demonstrate what Jonathan Sharp (Scotland) and Steve Pearson (England) usually do in school projects: Offering basic knowledge of British and Irish folk music and dance. We will demonstrate that language concepts can be more easily communicated when coupled with musical demonstrations, and that this also extends to dance, where instructions and actions are learned side-by-side. In addition, the instruments used and even the traditional dress (Scottish kilts!) are discussed. Of particular interest might be the interactive element, in which students/participants have the chance to join in the music making with us, on stage. As always, the emphasis is on enjoyment, and we believe that with the high level of student participation as well as the performative aspect, we achieve our aims.
